About Us

The next Cape Fear Soap Box Derby Race - May 19, 2024. The Cape Fear Soap Box Derby, supported by the Kiwanis Club of Cape Fear, aims to foster positive sportsmanship among children, parents, and Kiwanis members in Fayetteville, North Carolina, while raising funds to support local youth through the Kiwanis Club of Cape Fear Foundation. We revived a tradition absent for nearly 50 years, the Soap Box Derby in Fayetteville has a rich history dating back to 1933. Notably, in 1971, it became a landmark event for gender equality in sports when Sandra Sosa and two friends became the first females to compete, following a legal battle for their right to race. Starting in May 2024, the Derby will be an annual event where champions from Stock, Super Stock, and Masters divisions can advance to compete in the prestigious All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio.
